You can set it on 6 watts, but it is far less radio than a 5 watt Normal or Uniden in same cost range. I bought it for the float waterproof characteristics, but I am disappointed with its VHF reception/transmission. It's ok for the capital, I guess, but I would not suggest it for trustworthy marine use.
