We have 4 of these handhelds exactly where I function, on ocean-going tug/barge units. We use the optional remote mics exclusively and they tend to send groggy transmissions when wet, but conveniently solved by a sandwich baggy and a rubber band. Have had to replace a handful of of those, once more for their getting been dropped one as well a large number of instances, but thats another evaluation. The button layout is pretty straight forward, any deckhand could decipher how to use it without concerns. It appears far way more prone to intermod than my Icom handheld. You have to turn the squelch way up in some places. I entirely HATE the swivel holder issue that goes on your belt. A major PITA to get the point on and off. Also the radio has no wrist strap. I like to wear this radio while sailing as low cost insurance coverage for going overboard and these factors make it much less valuable and far more probably to be dropped. I will likely invest in some sort of holster for it.
