The Cobra units performed effectively for its intended goal.
However, the 16-mile claim is way exagerated.
The only way you could communicate amongst two units at a 16-mile distance is if a person was at the top of a mountain with a clear sight to the second unit.
We had been on a boat and could not communicate to shore right after about 2 miles.
My son lately purchased the cx190 and it was great. He took it to Canada and it linked up with his Canadian friends, who had numerous brands and models of walkie-talkies, had outstanding range and clarity. I spotted these, the cx105 and thought "Oh, Gee, half the cost, what a decent deal." NOT ! I believed I would by no means get them out of the package, virtually cut myself on the difficult plastic, had to use heavy shears and rip and pull. Ultimately following having them out I had to put in non included batteries. The non removable belt clip is so close I could hardly get the battery door open. I had to get my husband's assist to get the door back on. Just after all that effort I was so disappointed in the high quality, absolutely nothing close to as good as the Cobra cx190 which comes with rechargeable batteries and a wall charger. Cx190 are beefier units with other extra attributes. So, devote a small much more and get a far better set. I advocate the cx190 from my experience.
