Buyer Evaluations
Got these for paintball / airsoft in the woods. Decent clarity. Have not tested the limits of the range. The battery packs that came with it are NiMH which is best for me and my partial charge behaviors. Also the fact you can swap in typical batteries if necessary was a very good selling point for me. The beeps are annoying but they can be turned off (critical when sneaking about in the bushes).
Please note it genuinely only has 22 channels like all FRS/GMRS radios. The further 14 channels they boast are just preset sub-channels (privacy codes).
Awesome but for the price.
Picked up these radios along with the Midland AVPH3 security-style headsets ahead of hitting the slopes of Tahoe for some skiing/snowboarding. The radios functioned far better than I was expecting, carrying the signal from one particular side of the mountain to the other in "Low" signal power. We paired up with other people in our group who had been working with Motorola radios (just place them on the similar channel and sub-channel). Also, I suggest those AVPH3 headsets (currently reviewed), and would advise them to pair with these radios if you require your hands totally free (believe sporting activities).
Likes:
-Size these guys are smaller adequate to throw in a pocket
-Removable clips for our requirements, we removed the belt clips so they had a lower profile and slipped into pockets much better
-Range of functions turned off "Roger beep" for the reason that it was obtaining annoying on the slopes. Also liked the VOX sensitivity settings
-Pretty intuitive menus when you've taken a moment to go by way of what each implies in the booklet
-Distance/range I do not assume we ever switched more than to GMRS, but nevertheless had fairly clear transmissions across distinctive components of the mountains
-Ease of use turn them on, match up the channels and sub-channels (or "privacy codes") and they work. Hassle-free as that.
-Rechargeable batteries OR AAA batteries Love that I don't have to decide to buy new batteries all the time since of the rechargeable pack that comes with these radios, however can throw 4x AAA batteries in every if the rechargeable batteries die.
Dislikes:
-So far, couple of dislikes!
-Rechargeable battery was decent, not amazing (as mentioned by others), but the battery level indicator gave no warning prior to the batteries entirely died. Power stated full toward the end of the first day on the slopes, then suddenly died. Turning the power back on would give 30 seconds of juice, nonetheless showing full power, then died.
-Wish there had been rubber seals over the optional headset jacks (weather seals)
Overall, so far I am rather happy with these, and the value is great. Can not wait to try them out though on lengthy bike rides or playing paintball. Actively looking for out new utilizes for these mainly because I appreciate them!
